Principal Function: The Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy is responsible for establishing and maintaining brand presence in the market by creating a comprehensive brand strategy, architecture, voice, and metrics with the primary goal of establishing a premier brand. The individual is driven to promote Conner Prairie with the primary goal of driving awareness and attendance to the museum, as well as key positioning in the DMA as a “must go” destination. Using an omni-channel approach, the Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy will engage the public through paid, earned, and owned verticals to ensure full market awareness of the Museum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - These include, but are not limited to:
1.Maintains brand identity and guidelines by leading the oversight and management of the brand and deployment across all platforms to ensure all owned, earned, and paid collateral are synchronized and conveys a uniform and consistent brand message.
2.Supervises the strategy, development, and updates to the website and other digital platforms.
3.Collaborates with the programmatic and development teams to increase overall profile of museum and amplify its mission locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally.
4.Coordinates the marketing and creative needs for internal "clients" to ensure strategy and brand guidelines are met.
5.Oversee the creation of compelling content and manage creative campaigns for advertising, print projects, direct mail, and e-newsletters for the organization.
6.Implements elements of the overall advertising plan.
7.Supports the Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer in the fostering and oversight of outside creative agency relationships.
8.Assists in identifying areas of growth and opportunity and provides guidance on enhancing current communication material.
9.Help create and manage marketing budget, track and analyze marketing campaign performance, and use data to inform strategic decisions.
10.Develop strategies to keep employees informed and engaged, including managing internal newsletters and intranet content.
Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises the marketing department including a Graphic Designer, Marketing Project Manager, Public Relations Senior Manager, Web Administration, Digital Communication Senior Manager, and Social Media/Communication specialists. Employee fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities are interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; scheduling and approving time worked; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A/B.S.) in marketing, business, visual communication, graphic design, or other related field is required; Master’s degree (M.A/M.B.A.) is desired; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory experience is desired. Previous experience working in attractions is desired.
Other Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired.
- Computer software skills required include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of Blackbaud Altru systems is preferred.
- Demonstrate photography experience and understanding is required.
- Proficiency in online communications development and implementation is required.
- Prior experience developing and managing a brand is required. Consumer brand experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in the development and implementation of marketing and advertising plans is required.
- Proficiency of content management systems, SEO’s, key data mining, and research is required.
- Project management skills are required in order to facilitate numerous print and digital projects over the course of the year. Skills include scheduling, developing content, providing design direction and insights, approving final layouts, and staying on budget.
- The ability to manage multiple marketing projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment is required.
- The ability to write marketing communications is required.
- The ability to edit/proof a variety of documents is required.
- Proficiency in the advertising industry as it relates to the organization’s advertising and promotional needs is required.
- The ability to prepare and maintain financial budgets is required.
- The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required.
- The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is exposed to working near moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock when working with office equipment and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
While the offices of Conner Prairie are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, this position may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends. It also may require occasional domestic travel. Thus, a valid driver’s license is desired.
